The explanation of CIL combat mechanics is split into 6 sections:
Initial - Determination of the environment where the combat will take place.
Setup - How the player can arrange his units and the options available before the first battle.
Battle - Combat resolution and effects during battle.
Night - Options available to the player for restructuring his units during combat.
Resolution - The effects of a battle, including casualties, determination of victory and any changes in unit quality.
Special - Some treatment of how this system will grow to include more advanced units and situations.
