|
Back to Unit Index Eight types of naval units will be simulated in the alpha scenario of CIL:
Wooden Frigate - Early warships that made up the navies of the middle 19th century, still used as transports after the introduction of ironclads.
Early Ironclad - Like the Warrior and the Virginia, either converted wooden frigates or early designs.
Single Turret Monitor - Early coastal defense ships utilizing a primative turret.
Casemate Ram - A more modernized design that eschewed turrets.
Multi-Turret Monitor - Larger, improved versions of early turreted ships. Either a coastal vessel, like the Onondoga, a Union and later a French warship, or ocean-going, like the Laird rams.
Mastless Ironclad - The pinnacle of technology at the time, utilizing improved turrets.
Early Armored Cruiser - Better known as a protected cruiser, the class of warships prevelant during the 1880s.
Late Armored Cruiser - Large, heavily armed ships, the most powerful naval vessels afloat until the HMS Dreadnought.
